Then the site grows \u2014 you want to take payments, or build a multi-step application form, or you&#8217;re simply tired of writing bracket tags into a textarea \u2014 and you start looking at <strong>Gravity Forms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Gravity Forms starts at <strong>$59\/year<\/strong> for a single site and climbs from there once you want the add-ons that make it powerful. So the real question isn&#8217;t which is better \u2014 it&#8217;s whether your situation justifies the spend, or whether something in between fits better.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>How we compared:<\/strong> Contact Form 7 6.1.6 (and our own <a href=\"https:\/\/jnkplugins.com\/trinity-forms\/\" class=\"jnk-linkweave-auto\">Trinity Forms<\/a>) were tested hands-on on a WordPress 7.0 \/ PHP 8.4 site in July 2026. Gravity Forms is a paid product with no free build, so its assessment is desk research from its published documentation and pricing \u2014 we&#8217;ve kept its claims to things you can verify on gravityforms.com, re-checked on 16 September 2026.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Why people stay on Contact Form 7<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>There is no paid tier.<\/strong> No renewal, no licence key, no feature you can see but can&#8217;t use.<\/li>\n<li><strong>You already know it.<\/strong> Most WordPress users have configured a CF7 form at some point.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The add-on ecosystem is huge.<\/strong> Entries via Flamingo, conditional logic via a third-party plugin, extra spam protection via another. You can assemble something capable for \u00a30 if you don&#8217;t mind maintaining several plugins.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That last point is the honest catch. CF7&#8217;s power comes from add-ons written by different authors on different release schedules \u2014 and the base plugin still <a href=\"https:\/\/jnkplugins.com\/blog\/does-contact-form-7-store-data\/\">doesn&#8217;t store submissions at all<\/a>, so at minimum you&#8217;re running two plugins before you have a form that remembers anything.<\/p>\n<h2>When Gravity Forms genuinely earns the money<\/h2>\n<p>Gravity Forms is the enterprise default for WordPress forms, and there are situations where nothing else is a sensible answer:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>You&#8217;re taking payments.<\/strong> Stripe, PayPal and subscription billing tied to form submissions, properly supported. If money changes hands on your form, this is the strongest argument for paying.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Genuinely complex conditional logic.<\/strong> Multi-page forms where later pages depend on earlier answers, calculated fields, dynamic pricing. Building this on CF7 is possible and miserable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>You need someone accountable.<\/strong> When CF7 breaks you post in a public support forum and wait. With a Gravity licence you have a support contract \u2014 for client work, that alone can justify it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Deep integrations.<\/strong> CRMs and marketing platforms (Mailchimp, HubSpot and the like), webhooks, its own REST API. The add-on catalogue is the real product.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Entries are native.<\/strong> Unlike CF7, Gravity Forms stores every submission in your database out of the box, with a searchable entries screen \u2014 no add-on required. For an agency handing a site to a client, that alone removes a whole category of &#8220;where did the enquiry go&#8221; tickets.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Do note that the headline $59 covers the basic licence \u2014 several of the add-ons above sit in higher tiers, so price the plan against the features you actually need rather than the entry price. That&#8217;s a real problem \u2014 bracket syntax is genuinely unpleasant \u2014 but it&#8217;s the cheapest of the reasons to switch, and the one with the most alternatives.<\/p>\n<p>Equally, if the trigger is &#8220;I want to see my submissions in the dashboard&#8221;, that&#8217;s a storage problem, not a form-builder problem, and Flamingo or <a href=\"https:\/\/jnkplugins.com\/entryvault\/\">EntryVault<\/a> solves it for nothing.
