The WordPress plugin market has quietly become a subscription market. Want a form builder? That’ll be $49 to $299 a year, every year, for as long as the forms need to keep working. For an agency running thirty client sites, or a small business watching its margins, those renewals stop being a purchase and become a permanent line item.

How we checked this. Prices and lifetime terms come from each vendor’s own pricing page, read on 16 September 2026, with the renewal price given where a first-year discount is shown. We have not bought every plugin here, so this is a comparison of published terms, not hands-on testing, apart from our own. Always confirm on the vendor’s checkout page.

There are still form builders you can buy once. Here are the ones worth knowing about in 2026, with real prices — and the honest catch attached to each.

1. Trinity Forms

Disclosure before anything else: Trinity Forms is our plugin, so treat this entry as informed rather than impartial. You can install the free version if you’d rather judge it yourself.

It’s built on the WordPress block editor, so forms are composed with the same interface as your pages, with an optional visual builder added in 2.0 for people who prefer a dedicated canvas. The free tier is deliberately generous where it matters: entries are stored and readable, and conditional logic is included — the two things competitors most often paywall.

The pricing, stated precisely: Pro starts at $49/year, and a lifetime licence is available on every paid tier at 4× the yearly price, paid once. So it isn’t lifetime-only — annual is the default and lifetime is a choice you make at checkout. At the entry tier that’s roughly the cost of four years, after which it’s free forever.

Best for: people who want readable entries and conditional logic without paying anything, and a pay-once route if they later need payments or integrations.

2. Fluent Forms

Fluent Forms is one of the most feature-complete builders available, competing directly with Gravity Forms and WPForms — conversational forms, a deep integration catalogue, PDF generation, the lot.

The pricing: lifetime licences are a standard published option, not an occasional promotion. Checked on fluentforms.com on 16 September 2026: lifetime is $279 single site, $479 for 5 sites, $719 unlimited (list $349, $599 and $899), against annual plans at $63, $127 and $239 in the first year (list $79, $159 and $299). Against the list annual price, lifetime works out at roughly four and a half years.

Best for: power users who need the integration depth and would otherwise be renewing an annual plan indefinitely. If you’ll run the site more than five years, the maths is straightforward.

3. ARForms

ARForms is an older, established builder sold as a one-time purchase rather than a subscription. Its add-on bundle is sold through CodeCanyon.

The pricing: ARForms Pro is $39 one-time on arformsplugin.com, with “Free Lifetime Updates” and 6 months of support included. The add-on bundle is a separate $34. Their refund promise is narrow: 7 days, and only if they can’t fix a technical problem (all checked 16 September 2026).

The catch, and it’s a real one: “lifetime” here means lifetime updates, not lifetime support, which ends after six months. Their pricing page doesn’t state a site limit, so check the licence terms at checkout before using it across client sites.

Best for: single-site owners who want capable software for under $50 and don’t expect to need much support.

The big three don’t offer lifetime — here is what they cost instead

Most people arrive here having already checked one specific plugin, so take the direct answers first. None of these three sells a lifetime licence. All are annual renewals, and no amount of waiting for Black Friday turns them into a one-time purchase.

List prices from each vendor’s own pricing page, checked 16 September 2026. WPForms in particular is almost always running a discount — 50% off as we write this, so Basic shows as $49.50 for the first year. Budget the list price, because that is what a renewal is measured against, not the intro offer.

• The renewal is the real number. A three-year cost on WPForms Pro at list is roughly $1,200, and on Formidable Business roughly the same. That is the figure to compare against a one-time price, not the first-year discount.

Does a lifetime deal actually save money?

The rough rule: lifetime prices sit at about four to five times the annual price, so a lifetime licence pays for itself somewhere in years four to five. If the site is a long-term asset, that’s a clear win. If it’s a client project that may be rebuilt in two years, the annual plan is cheaper and you shouldn’t feel clever about avoiding it.

Two things worth checking before any lifetime purchase, whoever you buy from:

• Whose lifetime? Some “lifetime” licences mean the lifetime of the product, not yours. If the vendor sunsets the plugin or launches “v3” as a separate purchase, your licence can quietly end.
• Does support end? Lifetime updates and lifetime support are different products, as the ARForms example shows.
